📋 Sign Up System 📋
Due to the overwhelming response in people looking to share their poetry we have devised a new system in hopes of hearing all your voices.
No more lining up at 6:30pm to sign up! Doors will still open at 6:30pm. But sign up will be announced on mic on the stage at 7pm. Poets will come to the stage to sign up for either the open mic or the slam. You can only sign up for one or the other not both. There will be no cut off. All that want to sign up can. All names who want to do open mic will be put in a jug. 5 names will be pulled. Those 5 names will be our open mic poets. All the people who want to slam be put in a different jug. 12 names will be pulled from the jug. Those 12 people will enter the slam.
For all the people who's names DID NOT get pulled. Your names will be added twice to the following months slam.
Want to come watch and not perform? That's totally okay!
🎤HEAD TO HEAD FORMAT🎤
8 poets will compete head-to-head until we have 1 winner. In this tournament format, poets will be selected at random and paired up in head-to-head poetry bouts. Poets will be designated Poet X vs. Poet O. Poet X will choose heads or tails in a coin flip. If Poet X wins the coin flip, they will pick whether they would like to go first or second. If Poet X loses the coin flip, Poet O will get the choice to go first or second. Judges will not be using scores. Judges will watch both poets do their poems and then pick between X or O. Poet with the most votes moves onto the next round. 4 winners of quarterfinals will move on to two semifinals bouts. The winners of the two semifinals bouts will go to finals. Competing poets will need 3 poems to win.
Rules are the same as a regular poetry slam. No props. No costumes. No musical accompaniment. No nudity. No animal acts. The only change is the time limit. Since there are no points to deduct. The time limit will be 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Poet will be cut off at 3:10 whether the poem is finished or not. Judges will judge based on what they heard and poets will not be disqualified or penalized for being cut off.
It's like a poetry slam... but different!
