Build-A-Bin: Vermiculture Workshop
About this Event
ermiculture, or the raising of earthworms, is a great way to recycle organic waste into high quality soil for your garden. Join Mel, the Worm Queen, for her most popular class! In this workshop we assemble a worm composting system, add bedding, food, grit, and worms. As we assemble our worm bins we will discuss the biology, rearing, and husbandry of eisenia fetida, or the red wiggler. We will go over everything you need to know to successfully worm compost at home; including how worms eat, digest, and mate as well as all the benefits the whole process offers your home and garden.
Go home with your own fully functional and ready to use worm bin and your own colony of approximately 200 red wigglers. Containers, worms, and bedding will be provided. Please bring a handful of plant based food scraps from breakfast or dinner to add to your worm bin. Food waste will not be provided so please bring your own fresh scraps. You will take home a fully assembled worm bin, stocked with approximately 200 red wigglers, ready to start composting your food scraps, capable of composting 3 to 7 pounds of scraps a week almost immediately!
All supplies are included. No prior experience needed.
