Theme: “Together in Music, Friendship, and Harmony!”
The Kansas City Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon is excited to present a program that celebrates the diverse musical representation within our membership. Our alumni and collegiate members will perform together in celebration of 100 years of music, friendship and harmony in Kansas City!
Ten Pianists, and members of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, the Alpha Kappa Chapter at UMKC Conservatory and the Xi Chapter at the University of Kansas will perform on this program.

Mu Phi Epsilon KC Alumni Chapter – President and Program Chair:
Virginia Q. Backman is a flute instructor, clinician, chamber musician and soloist. She enjoys teaching students of all levels, teaching privately, in public schools, and at the university level. Backman received her DMA in flute performance from the UMKC Conservatory and holds an MM in performance and a BM in music education and performance. She is the principal flutist for the Midwest Chamber Ensemble, a Founding Member of the Beaufort Winds Quintet and specializes in New Music. Her solo album, Flying Solo, features music from the 21st Century for solo flute by American composers. Dr. Backman is the President and Program Chair for the Kansas City Alumni chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, a professional music fraternity devoted to service, education and community building through music. She enjoys performing and collaborating in chamber and orchestral settings and is an active performing artist in the Kansas City area.
