Tommy Whiteside is a Roseburg-based drummer, composer, songwriter, and bandleader specializing in jazz and rock ‘n’ roll. “Xanadu” is his second full-length studio album, and also his second full-length studio album this year. He is a founding member and songwriter of Roseburg’s modular rock ‘n’ roll trio Widespread Haze, and a graduate of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA.
The music is cinematic and expressive, wandering from strange and colorful orchestrated harmonies, through free-improvisational landscapes, and into gritty bop-infused blues, always prioritizing melody and swing. Rhythmic interplay, unusual form, and melodic storytelling are cornerstones of this new material.
“Jackie Sandberg (piano) and I met at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, and continued to play together for years. Miles Halloran (trumpet) is currently studying at the New School in New York, Andrew Schnautz at Oregon State University, Nathaniel Keller (alto) at Berklee School of Music in Boston, and Judah Sensabaugh at University of North Texas. They will all be in town for Winter Break, making this a rare and explosive reunion.”
