Book Launch: Remembering Syonan: 80 Objects from Occupied Singapore
About this Event
Join World Scientific Publishing for the launch of Remembering Syonan: 80 Objects from Occupied Singapore by Benjamin Seet and Dominic Tan.
For three years, six months and 29 days, Singapore was occupied by Japanese forces and renamed Syonan-to. It was a period marked by hardship, uncertainty and difficult choices. Eight decades later, many memories of the Occupation have faded, but surviving objects continue to preserve fragments of the lives behind this history.
Through 80 carefully selected artefacts—one for every year since the Occupation ended—Remembering Syonan reconstructs the experiences of those who lived through this period. From ordinary household items to personal documents and wartime materials, each object offers a window into everyday life, survival and memory in occupied Singapore.
Hear from authors Benjamin Seet and Dominic Tan, together with guest speaker Peter Lee, an independent art and heritage consultant. The discussion will be followed by a moderated Q&A and book signing.
