Fifty years on, Singapore's Chinese mini-fiction is still proving how much fits in very little. Writers here have been at it since the late 1970s, developing something with such a distinctive character, sustained by the literary supplements of local newspapers and the steady work of writers. The community around it grew large enough to make Singapore the home of the World Chinese Mini-Fiction Research Association. In this talk, Xi Ni Er traces that half-century history through the writers who shaped the form, the turning points that defined it, and the collections and anthologies that carried this small but mighty form into the world.
This programme will be conducted in Mandarin.
Doors open 1.30pm.
