This workshop for absolute beginners isn’t about painting flowers realistically — it’s about interpretation, experimentation, and discovering your own visual language.

In this 3‑hour workshop we will:

• Explore loose, playful drawing
• Dive into expressive colour using paints and pastels
• Look at simple ways to build floral compositions
• Create a totally original flower painting that reflects your unique creative style

You’ll leave with a whole toolkit of art‑making knowledge you can return to again and again as you develop your own work.

This workshop is all about freeing yourself from perfection. We won’t be trying to replicate flowers petal‑for‑petal — instead, we’ll use them as a joyful starting point for mark‑making, colour play, and imaginative interpretation.

Flowers don’t have to be delicate or precise. They can be bold, abstract, messy, vibrant — whatever feels true to you. We’ll enjoy the shapes, colours, and rhythms found in simple floral arrangements and turn them into lively, expressive artworks.

You’ll walk away with a painting that feels completely your own.

So what will we do?

The session is broken into guided sections that build towards your final painting in the last hour.

We’ll explore:

• Simple drawing techniques to loosen up
• How to break down flowers into simple shapes and lines
• Approaches to colour that bring energy and emotion
• Composition ideas that help your painting feel balanced and dynamic

By the end, you’ll have a finished floral painting you’re proud of — plus a bundle of sketches that each tell their own story.

The venue has ample free parking and is close to Cardiff Central train station, so you can arrive easily with or without a car.
