Tackling Food Waste Through Youth Innovation
Join us on 7th July 2026 for the BIEA STEM Competition 2026 International Final & Showcase, taking place at Mercato Metropolitano, London’s vibrant sustainable food court and community space.
This year’s competition brings together young innovators from 10 countries and regions, including the UK, China, Turkey, Northern Ireland, Saudi Arabia and more, to present their creative STEM-based solutions to one of the world’s most urgent sustainability challenges: food waste.
Across the globe, huge amounts of food are lost or wasted every year, while many communities continue to face food insecurity, rising living costs, and environmental pressures. Food waste is not only a social and economic issue; it is also a major environmental challenge, contributing to unnecessary carbon emissions, wasted water, land use, and energy consumption.
At the BIEA STEM Competition 2026 International Final, student teams will showcase their ideas, prototypes, research, and innovations designed to reduce food waste and create a more sustainable future. Their projects will explore how science, technology, engineering, creativity, and community action can work together to change the way we produce, distribute, consume, and value food.

9:00am – Doors Open
Guests, teams, teachers, partners, press and members of the public are welcome to arrive, register and explore the showcase area.
9:30am onward – International Finals & Showcase
Finalist teams present and exhibit their STEM solutions to tackle food waste. Visitors are invited to meet the teams, ask questions and learn about their innovations.
12:00pm – Secret Task
Teams take part in a special challenge designed to test their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
2:30pm – Award Presentation
Winners and outstanding teams are recognised and celebrated during the official awards ceremony.
4:00pm – Closing
The event concludes.
