Beyond Zero is a powerful documentary that tracks the high-stakes transformation of Interface, a global carpet tile manufacturer, from a massive environmental polluter into a world leader in sustainable business. The film centers on the late Ray Anderson, the founder and former CEO of Interface. In 1994, spurred by a question from a customer about his company’s environmental footprint and influenced by Paul Hawken’s book The Ecology of Commerce, Anderson realized that his success was built on "plunder."He famously declared that his company would pursue a "Mission Zero" goal: to have zero footprint by the year 2020. At the time, this was dismissed by many as corporate suicide.
