BEYOND: Limits (2026) by SMU INDANCITY

BEYOND: Limits explores what it means to live in a world shaped by social conformity and unspoken expectations.

Choreographed by our Artistic Director, Hong Guofeng and Technique Master, Andy Benjamin Cai, this triple bill presents three pieces that follows dancers as they navigate the pressures imposed by society, others, and themselves—slowly confronting the boundaries they’ve learned to live within. As tension builds between holding it together and breaking free, the production reveals that limits are not simply something to overcome, but a space where we uncover who we are.

Limits are not the end, but reminders that we are human, and it's how we go beyond.

About BEYOND

BEYOND is SMU INDANCITY’s annual production, serving both as a platform for dancers to showcase what they have learnt, as well as an opportunity for them to work with choreographers across the industry. In doing so, dancers are exposed to various interpretations of contemporary dance, allowing them to deepen their exploration of movement and broaden their dance vocabulary.
