📌 How MVP & Hot Shot Rankings Work (Please Read)
We get a lot of questions about MVP and Hot Shot standings, so here’s the simple breakdown straight from our current bylaws.
🏆 MVP (Points Per Match / PA%)
MVP is based on how many points you earn compared to how many points were available to you.
• In 8-Ball, each match has 3 points available
• In 9-Ball, each match has 20 points available
Your MVP score is a percentage:
Points Earned ÷ Points Available
Example:
If you play 10 matches in 8-Ball, you had 30 points available.
If you earned 12 points, your MVP score is 40%.
Every match you play updates that percentage. More matches don’t automatically help — earning points does.
🔥 Hot Shot (Performance Points)
Hot Shot is calculated very differently.
• You earn performance points by defeating opponents
• Each win adds the skill level of the opponent you beat
• Each team you play on is tracked separately
• Skill levels are based on end-of-session skill levels
This rewards players who:
• Play consistently
• Win matches
• Beat stronger opponents
🧠 Quick Summary
• MVP = efficiency (how well you score your available points)
• Hot Shot = performance (who you beat and how many matches you play)
Both systems reward different strengths — and both matter.
