Beginners Carpentry and DIY Evening Course – London Trade Academy
Want to learn carpentry and gain the confidence to tackle practical projects yourself?
Our five-week Beginners Carpentry and DIY Course is designed for adults with little or no previous experience. Through practical, hands-on sessions, you'll develop essential carpentry skills, learn to use hand tools safely and build projects to take home.
Whether you're looking to improve your DIY skills, explore a new hobby or develop a foundation in carpentry, this course is a great place to start.
What you'll learn
Week 1 – Introduction to Carpentry
Learn about essential carpentry hand tools, workshop safety, accurate measuring and cutting. Put your new skills into practice by making a small wooden box to take home.
Week 2 – Hand Tool Confidence
Develop your confidence in using carpentry hand tools while practising accurate measuring, marking out and cutting techniques.
Week 3 – Developing Carpentry Skills
Build on your existing skills by practising accurate cutting, working with angles and assembling a practical woodworking project to take home.
Week 4 – Fitting a Mortice Lock
Learn how to prepare timber and fit a mortice lock using traditional hand tools and a power drill.
Week 5 – Finishing and Further Skills
Explore door hardware and consolidate the skills you've developed throughout the course.
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Identify and use essential carpentry hand tools safely.
- Measure, mark out and cut timber accurately.
- Complete basic woodworking projects.
- Understand the process of fitting a mortice lock.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for complete beginners aged 18 and over. No previous carpentry experience is required.
With a maximum of 8 learners per class, you'll benefit from a small-group learning environment with guidance throughout the practical sessions.
