Beginner-Friendly Lesson Series: Jukin' with Laney & Olivia
This month, we’re focusing on blues dances that came out of Juke Joints. Juke Joints were Black-owned social spaces, starting in the rural South after the civil war. These were essential social spaces where Black people could socialize, dance, play games, drink, play music, and feel affirmed, seen, and free for a night. These are some of the first homes of blues music and dance. You can read more about Juke Joints here. Jukin' Blues dances are great for anywhere there is a party with a crowded dance floor.
These lessons will be located in the dance studio at the North Dale Recreation Center, just a 5 minute drive from The Blues Saloon where there is a free blues jam every Tuesday until 11 pm. It's a great spot to go practice your dance skills on the dance floor. We hope you'll head over with us!
