What if you knew you were going to die today?
Not someday or when you’re old, and not after you’ve finally done all the things you keep telling yourself you’ll do later.
Today.
We live as though time is endless. We postpone conversations. Stay in situations we know aren’t right. Hold ourselves back. Wait until we feel ready. Assume our bodies will keep carrying us and that there will always be another year, another chance, another time.
But none of us actually knows how much time we have.
Before You Die is a temple journey into our relationship with death — and, through it, our relationship with being alive.
Facilitated by Joanna, we’ll begin together, exploring death, our fears and beliefs around dying, the deaths we have experienced, and what death means to each of us.
And then the temple begins.
You won’t know when you are going to die.
Throughout the journey, numbers or symbols will be drawn from a hat.
When yours is drawn, you die. Symbolically, of course.
Maybe you have three hours left.
Maybe twenty minutes.
Maybe you are the last one standing.
And until then, you live. You dance. You connect. You feel. You notice what suddenly matters when you are acutely aware that you don't know how much time you have left.
Maury's music will hold and shape the journey carrying us through life, death and all that comes in between.
This is not about making death frightening or dramatic.
It is an invitation to come a little closer to something most of us spend our lives keeping at a distance — and to see what it might have to teach us about living.
