🛏️Two nights accommodation in a cosy bunkhouse right in the heart of nature, with female & male only shared rooms
🌄Guided hikes through beautiful Peak District countryside. Our trained leaders will ensure it’s an enjoyable and safe walk and tell you about the local area. One longer walk on Saturday and a shorter one on Sunday.
🍳We will provide bed and breakfast and a packed lunch. Enjoy hearty home cooked breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings and we will make you a packed lunch for the hike on Saturday. In the evenings you will be able to eat at the pub - we will arrange a group booking or you can make your own dinner in the full equipped kitchen.
🔥A snuggly open fire to relax by in the evening in the Eco Studio and some stargazing under clear skies (weather permitting!)
🎲Do you love a good board game? Scrabble, Jenga, Monopoly, Uno, Chess! We will have time in the evening to get some games going on in front of the fire! There is also a pool table.
The Location
Situated on Bretton Edge near the historic village of Eyam, the hostel sits at an impressive 1,200 feet above sea level. This elevated position provides a sense of space and 360-degree panoramic views. The location looks out across the rugged gritstone edges and heather moors of the Dark Peak to the north, and down onto the rolling limestone plateau of the White Peak to the south. There are great walks straight from the door.
If you aren’t driving then we can arrange pick ups from Grindleford train station or Eyam – which is accessible by bus quite easily from Sheffield.
The Accommodation
Bretton Hostel is a beautifully renovated, independent eco-hostel that offers a remote-feeling escape. Its perched high on a ridge, with great views. Its sleeps 17 but this event is limited to 14 spaces so we have plenty of room across the three bunk-bed dormitories. It has a self-catering kitchen, a ground-floor washroom block with showers, a dedicated drying room for wet gear, and a cosy living/dining room with a log-burning stove and french doors opening onto a sunny, south-facing patio. There is on-site parking for 6 to 8 vehicles.
We will relax in the Eco-Studio that stands in the hostel’s three acres of grounds. Complete with a wild-flower turf roof, large picture windows with panoramic views, a log burner, a pool table, and comfortable sofas, it makes an ideal space to relax in.

Food & Drink
Included in the cost are cooked breakfasts and a packed lunch. Enjoy hearty home cooked breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings and we will make you a packed lunch for the hike on Saturday. We will provide tea and coffee and cake after the walk!
If you want to keep the weekend costs down, in the evenings you can cook yourself in the self-catering kitchen.
If you wanted to splash out you will be able to eat at one of the nearby pubs. There is a 16th-century inn, award-winning Barrel Inn, just a 5-minute walk from the hostel. It boasts some of the best pub views in Derbyshire and great food. Two other pubs and local shops are a short drive away down the ridge.
We will send a pre-order form out prior to the event and we can make a group booking at the pub on Friday night and then we have the option of a second pub on Saturday or a takeaway delivered to the Hostel. These meals are NOT included in the price and the bill will be split individually at the end of the meal.

The Hike.
This hike starts from the Hostel and will be a circular loop round. Expect to walk up some steep hills as its an undulating terrain with some elevation. The full loop is about 9-15km but there are several options to shorten or lengthen it, depending on the weather and how the group is feeling. Expect a mix of terrain, including stone-flagged paths, grassy fields, tracks, and potentially some muddy sections, especially after rain.
We would expect you to have a base level of fitness as we will be hiking most of the day - we will be out from about 10am until 3.30pm.
The Sunday walk will be a lot shorter before we recap on the weekend and head home ( or off for a Sunday Dinner! )
There are three ticket types:
Non-member £200
ETHOS member £185
CSSC and ETHOS member £180
We will ask for your ETHOS and/or CSSC membership number after booking on.
