Beats and Backdrops | Welcome Night with Speaker Alex King
About this Event
We’re delighted to welcome you to the Fujifilm House of Photography Auckland, part of a global network of creative hubs in cities such as London, Seoul and Barcelona, and the largest House of Photography in the Southern Hemisphere.
The House of Photography is a place to touch, try, learn, print, exhibit and create, with a professional studio, gallery, and workshop spaces all under one roof.
This evening is about opening the doors to you, our photography community, so you can feel at home in the space, explore what’s possible, and discover how it can support your own creative practice. Whether through studio use, exhibitions, or future events, we hope this becomes a place you return to.
Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with drinks and nibbles, connect with fellow photographers, and hear from photographer Alex King, who will present her work and share insights into her creative approach.
We look forward to welcoming you for an evening of conversation, inspiration and community.
Introducing Alex King
My name is Alexandra Moana King and I’m a Cook Islander and Māori photographer based in the Cook Islands, working internationally.
Born on the East Coast of Aotearoa New Zealand and raised across the Pacific, my work is informed by a deep connection to community, culture, and place. I’m drawn to atmosphere, emotional realism, and lived experience, creating images that explore identity, environment, and belonging.
Across all of my work, I seek to build a consistent visual language through light, mood, and storytelling. Rather than being defined by genre, my practice is driven by a desire to create photographs that feel authentic, immersive, and connected to the people and places they depict.
Alongside my photography practice, I am co-founder of Te Ara o te Akau, a Cook Islands-based NGO focused on coral restoration and ocean conservation, and am passionate about environmental advocacy.
