As we celebrate the 2026 Black History Month theme, “One Hundred Years of Black History Commemorations,” join us for a journey through Beacon aka Beacon Hill aka the Bottom, once a thriving and tight‑knit Black community in downtown Decatur. Former residents, descendants, and youth-scholars will guide participants in marking important sites—including former homes, schools, businesses, and churches—and will share stories that illuminate the community’s legacy. Together, we will explore the significance of the land and ongoing efforts to preserve, protect, and remember Beacon Hill’s history.
This event is open to all ages. Advanced tickets are strongly recommended. Food will be provided. Please include any dietary restrictions or accessibility needs with your RSVP.
