BASICS: Soldering with instruction by Orion

Soldering is the joining of two metal surfaces mechanically and electrically. Solder secures the connection while providing electrical continuity. Flux is used to clean and prep the surfaces, which allows the melted solder to flow and bond with the metal surfaces while the solder is melted using a soldering iron.

This 1.5 hour course will include:

• Safety
• tinning
• soldering components to a protoboard
• common repairs
• how to remove solder
• a simple overview of schematics

All materials are provided including resin core solder. Bring your questions and ideas! The instructor Orion will be happy to answer questions about your personal projects at the end of class.

Members who complete this course are welcome to use the electronic station's soldering irons at Lacey MakerSpace for their own projects.

PLEASE remember: Closed-toed shoes are required at all times at the Lacey MakerSpace.

LMS has a $10 no-show fee for LMS members who don't show up for the classes they sign up for. These fees will be charged to the card we have on file. This fee is being instituted because we have had a pattern of members not showing up to our classes. Our classes have a limited amount of slots and we want to serve as many attendees as possible.

Closed-toed shoes are required at all times at the Lacey MakerSpace.

LMS provides all necessary safety gear, including safety glasses and other PPE.
