BASICS: Hand Planes & Finishing with instructor Daisy

Hand planing is a woodworking technique used to flatten, smooth, straighten, and dimension wood surfaces by shaving off thin layers. It is primarily used to achieve perfectly flat, square boards, remove imperfections, and create smooth, finish-ready surfaces. Attendees will be trying their hand at planing scrap wood, learning techniques and tools. Come with your questions and get project advice from volunteer instructor Daisy!

This course will cover:

• Block planes
• Jointer planes
• Molding planes
• Palm planes
• Sanding & Scraping

This class runs about 1 hr and covers how to safely use hand planes, exploring techniques and other finishing options. For more in-depth project based hands-on instruction, we offer workshops and one-on-one mentoring.

Individuals are welcome to sign up for multiple basics classes until they feel confident using the tools.

LMS has a $10 no-show fee for LMS members who don't show up for the classes they sign up for. These fees will be charged to the card we have on file. This fee is being instituted because we have had a pattern of members not showing up to our classes. Our classes have a limited amount of slots and we want to serve as many attendees as possible.

Closed-toed shoes are required at all times at the Lacey MakerSpace.

*Liability Waiver must be signed in person at the front desk before participating in any activities at the Lacey MakerSpace.

LMS provides all necessary safety gear, including safety glasses and other PPE. Hearing protection is mandatory for participants under 18 while in the woodshop.
