Forge your very own throwing axe / camping axe!
About this Event

During this 3-day intermediate level course, you will learn how to forge an axe from beginning to end, using hand tools only. No forging steps are skipped, and none are performed by machines. You will learn all of the skills and tooling necessary to forge a small axe (hatchet) that can be used for competitive throwing or camping. Our axes will be monosteel, punched-eye axes, and will meet the weight and dimension requirements of the World Axe Throwing League.

During this course, you will also be shown how to properly heat treat your axe, sharpen it, and be given time to properly hang (put a handle on) it, walking away with a fully completed tool made by your own hands.

All participants will be working with strikers to draw out the large mass of material and, in turn, will also be striking for other people. Striking with sledgehammers is very fun, but does require a high level of physical exertion, so please be prepared (well stretched) and ready to work at a high level of concentration. Sledgehammer techniques will be covered in this course.

Course cost includes a custom handle. Each handle is made by hand here in Canada by a local craftsman.

Please Note:

This is a 3-day intermediate level course. Prior forging experience is recommended. If you are new to forging but want to give it a try you can bring a friend to help you hammer the hot steel, at no extra cost.

Class runs from 9am-5pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a 1h lunch. All materials, safety equipment, coffee and tea will be provided. Lunch is available in town / an indoor lunch area with a microwave and fridge is provided on site if you bring your own food. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. See you there!

COST: $700.00 (+ HST + eventbrite registration fee)
