Award-Winning Short Film Screening: Where Time Settle

KNOT Films presents Where Time Settles, bringing together three filmmakers from across China. Filmmakers Di Zhang, Robin Wang, and Baigao Wen navigate times of profound change, from troubled childhoods, prejudice, and grief.

1999 Macau, 1910 Manchuria, and present day Chaoshan. Where Time Settles unites these visions together to remind us that through the shifts in time and space, family and individual memory constructs community. Illuminating the spaces of our identity, where we came from and where we must choose to go.

KNOT is proud to host Director, Robin Wang (Neither Donkey Nor Horse, 2024) for a discussion and Q&A how young directors tell their own stories and discover new perspectives in a rapidly changing world, as well as share the creative journeys behind their award-winning films.

本次展映由三部短片组成，横跨不同地域与历史节点，从清末、20 世纪中后期，到世纪之交与当下, 呈现普通人在时代变迁中的回应。

KNOT将在映后携手影片导演王中钰进行映后访谈，探讨青年导演在飞速变化的时代中如何讲述自身故事、发掘新视角，并分享获奖影片背后的创作历程。

Di Zhang

Director, screenwriter

Di holds degrees from the Central Academy of Drama, Beijing Film Academy, and is completing her MFA at USC. Her script Last Time Again was selected for the 2026 Sundance Institute Feature Film Development Track, the 2025 Sundance Institute Feature Film Producer Track and 13th Biennale College - Cinema (2024). Her script Non-Stop Station has been selected for the Golden Rooster Film Project Market and Film Laboratory, the Beijing International Film Festival Project Market, and the Macau International Film Festival Project Market. She has written for Legendary and Emperor Entertainment, including Paradise (2022) and Ready or Knot2 (2022) and contributed as a visual director for Shadow (2018) and Once Upon a Time (2017).

张迪 毕业于中央戏剧学院与北京电影学院，目前正在南加州大学（USC）攻读电影制作艺术硕士（MFA）学位。

她的电影剧本 《Last Time Again》 入选 2026 年圣丹斯电影学院剧情长片开发单元、2025 年圣丹斯电影学院剧情长片制片人项目，以及 第十三届“学院电影计划——电影单元”（Biennale College – Cinema，2024）。

Robin Zhongyu Wang

Director, Screenwriter, Producer

received his Bachelor of Arts in English with Highest Distinction from Duke University and earned his MFA from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. He is currently based in Los Angeles.

An Academy Award–winning filmmaker (Student Academy Awards) and a two-time College Television Award (Student Emmy) winner, Wang is an emerging director, screenwriter, and producer whose short films have been officially selected and screened at over one hundred film festivals in China and abroad. These include Urbanworld Film Festival presented by HBO, as well as multiple Academy Award–qualifying festivals such as LA Outfest, Cleveland International Film Festival, St. Louis International Film Festival, deadCenter Film Festival, and L.A. Shorts International Film Festival. His work has been featured multiple times in leading North American entertainment publications, including Variety and Deadline.

In 2024, Wang directed the late–Qing Dynasty period short film Neither Donkey Nor Horse, produced by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Based on the true story of Dr. Wu Lien-teh, the first Chinese scientist ever nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine, the film had its world premiere at the 51st Telluride Film Festival. The film became the only U.S.-based university production to win a Student Academy Award that year and was subsequently longlisted for Best Live Action Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards.

王中钰 本科于杜克大学英语文学系取得学士最高荣誉，南加州大学电影学院硕士毕业，现居洛杉矶。作为学生奥斯卡获奖导演，和两次蝉联学生艾美奖获奖的青年导演，编剧，制片，王中钵的短片在海内外百余个电影节入围展映，包括HBO举办的都市国际电影节(Urbanworld Film Festival )，奥斯卡资格的LA Outfest, Cleveland, St. Louis, deadCenter, L.A. Shorts 等电影节，并多次报道于北美顶级娱乐杂志《综艺》和《Deadline》。

2024年，王中钵执导了由阿尔弗莱德·斯隆（Alfred P . Sloan）基金会出品的晚清年代戏短片《非驴非马》。 《非驴非马》根据首位提名诺贝尔医学奖的华裔科学家伍连德医师的真实事蹟改编，于51届特柳赖德电影节全球首映。该片作为唯一美国本土学校获得51届学生奥斯卡奖，并入围97届奥斯卡最佳真人短片长名单。

Baigao Wen

Director, Screenwriter, Editor

Wen Baigao is an emerging director, screenwriter, and editor. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Film Directing from the Central Academy of Drama. His short films include Koi, Koi, He/She, Graduation Day, and Now You Hear. His works have been officially selected for major film festivals and programs, including the Shanghai International Film Festival, Pingyao International Film Festival, Student Academy Awards (Semifinalist), Maritime GuangDong Young Director Support Program Top Ten, 86358 Short Film Festival,Pingtan In Moments Film Festival, Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival, and the SF3 SmartFone Flick Fest (Australia).

In addition to his personal projects, Wen has worked in the editing department or directing teams on multiple theatrical feature films, including Entertainment for He Who Longs to Travel the World, Land of Broken Hearts, Dwelling by the West Lake, The Plateau Stones, Honey Money Phony, and Gugu Guagua. His work seeks a balance between personal expression and genre filmmaking, and he aims to re-examine traditional values through a contemporary lens.

温柏高 毕业于中央戏剧学院电影导演专业本科。短片作品有《锦鲤，锦鲤》《他她》《离校日》《现在你听》等，曾入围上海国际电影节、平遥国际电影展、学生奥斯卡Semifinalist、山海计划年度十强、86358贾家庄短片周、IM两岸青年影展、金鸡百花电影节、澳大利亚SF3国际电影节等。个人创作以外，参与了《发现之旅》《负负得正》《草木人间》《高原上的棒球场》《骗骗喜欢你》《咕咕呱呱》等院线长片的剪辑或导演组工作。他关注个人表达和类型创作之间的平衡，并希望以当下的眼光重新认识传统观念。

KNOT is an Asian film screening platform based in New York and Los Angeles. We are dedicated to presenting Asian films with distinctive perspectives—personal, experimental, or culturally representative—that expand and complicate the aura of “Asian” cinema. Many of these works are recognized within international festivals and professional circles, yet rarely reach mainstream audiences. Knot brings them into community spaces where they can be viewed, discussed, and understood.

We ask: In what spaces are films seen, and by whom? How are they discussed? And how do these stories shape the global perception of Asian culture?

Through community screenings and Q&As, KNOT brings films out of a festival-only context and into real life where personal experiences can extend into broader impacts and sustain cultural presence.

The Maritime Guangdong Young Director Support Program (hereinafter referred to as the Maritime Guangdong Program) is a large-scale talent support activity initiated and organized by theYangcheng Evening News Group in 2023, aimed at discovering, incubating, selecting, and cultivat.ing outstanding young Chinese directors from home and abroad.Based in the Guangdong-HoncKong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the program seeks to identify emerging voices in the field of image creation globally, supporting them in exploring various types of short films, including drama documentaries, and animation. The goal is to break new ground in the imagination of future Chinese visual culture, while allowing the world to rediscover China through the lens of film.
