Join us for an inspiring Creative Funding Workshop featuring award‑winning filmmaker Rachel Elizabeth Seed, Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at Emerson College LA Center. Rachel will share practical strategies and personal insights on how to secure funding for documentary projects. With her experience as both a filmmaker and a creative producer, Rachel brings a unique, real‑world perspective that empowers filmmakers to think boldly about how to sustain and elevate their work.

Whether you're just starting a project or looking to push your film across the finish line, this workshop offers valuable tools, fresh ideas, and a supportive space to explore new funding possibilities.

Membership in the Black Association of Documentary Filmmakers West is open to people of African descent working in documentary film, video or other media. While BAD Filmmakers West is a Southern California based organization, focusing primarily on the issues and concerns relevant to Southern California documentary filmmakers, there is no geographical limitation on membership. Members are encouraged to participate by lending their experience and sharing opinions.

Rachel Elizabeth Seed is a Brooklyn and Los Angeles-based nonfiction storyteller working in film, photography, and writing.

In 2025, she won the Truer Than Fiction Spirit Award for her debut feature film, A PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY, which is also a New York Times Critics Pick. Rachel’s work has received support from the Sundance Institute, Chicken + Egg Films, the Jewish Film Institute, the California Film Institute, Jewish Story Partners, NYFA, Field of Vision, the Jerome Foundation, NYSCA, the Maine Media Workshops, the Roy W. Dean grant, the National Arts Club, IFP, and many others.

Formerly a photo editor at New York Magazine, her photography has been exhibited worldwide, including at the International Center of Photography, and she was a cameraperson on several award-winning feature documentaries. Rachel’s writing has been published by No Film School, the Sundance Institute, and Talkhouse and she is Executive Director / Co-founder of the Brooklyn Documentary Club, a NYC-based filmmaker collective with 250+ members
