About the Author:
Ron J. Jackson, Jr. is a bestselling author and award-winning journalist who has been writing professionally for 40 years. He is the author of six books, including the ground-breaking Joe the Slave Who Became an Alamo Legend (2015) – winner of The Philosophical Society of Texas Award of Merit for nonfiction – Fight to the Finish: “Gentleman” Jim Corbett, Joe Choynski, and the Fight that Launched Boxing’s Modern Era (2019); Bebes and the Bear: Gene Stallings, Coach Bryant, and Their 1968 Cotton Bowl Showdown (2019), and his newest release, The Ride: The Improbable Life of Freckles Brown, A Bull Named Tornado, and The Most Historic Eight Seconds in Rodeo (2025).
Jackson is also a regular contributor for several magazines, including Colorado Life, Utah Life, Nebraska Life, and Maui No Ka Oi, and was among the reputed stable of contributors who wrote for the prestigious Wild West magazine. In addition, he is a proud member of the Western Writers of America, is a frequent guest on national podcasts, and has worked as a consultant for History Channel.
