Join us for a special bilingual storytime and craft in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival with Ling Lee and Eric Lee, authors of The Legend of Chang'e!In this retelling of a classic Chinese myth, Chang’e and her husband, an archer named Hou Yi, were just ordinary mortals, until one day, Hou Yi saved the Earth from disaster. But how did Chang’e become the immortal Moon Goddess while Hou Yi remained alone on Earth—and what does their story have to do with celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival?
This event is best for children ages 5-8 with their grownups.
About the Authors:
As a Taiwanese-American born in California, Eric Lee fondly remembers summers spent with relatives in Taiwan. Less exciting cultural experiences were the Sundays spent at Chinese school.
Ling Lee was born in Guangzhou, China and moved to the U.S. when she was four. She spent many Sunday afternoons attending Chinese school and now appreciates her early language exposure.
When Eric and Ling’s sons were born, they wanted them to have more exposure to Chinese language so that they could better connect with their culture and communicate with their grandparents. Struggling to find many great bilingual resources, the Lees decided to create their own stories, both to read to their sons and to share with other parents looking to introduce Chinese to their young readers.
Eric and Ling Lee currently reside in the Bay Area.
