Denise Karabinus builds community through creative collaborations. Her projects, such as Art Sci, a partnership with scientists from the University of Hawai‘i Mānoa (2018) and the Bishop Museum (2020), have shaped her art practice into a lifelong passion for supporting creative communities through art. One of her key initiatives, The Printer Lei Project, connects Chinatown lei makers, Hawaiian lei makers, and printmakers in an exploration of lei-making culture in Hawai‘i. Currently, Denise is the artist-in-residence at the Waikīkī Aquarium, collaborating with Tamara Moan, The Friends of the Aquarium, and Waikīkī Elementary School to create engaging, creative programs. Join us to learn how to build lasting connections within your community through your art practice.

About the Artist: Denise Karabinus focuses on drawing and printmaking in both her art and community service work. In 2014, she participated in the GRAM International Artist Residency in Community Service in Paradsinga, India. Her work has been exhibited at the Portland Museum of Art, Art in the Open in Philadelphia, the Printmaking Center of New Jersey, the Honolulu Museum of Art, and the University of Fine Arts Hanoi. Denise was the first American exchange student to represent the U.S. at the Hanoi Fine Arts University after diplomatic relations with Vietnam were restored in 1995, thanks to the Indochina Arts Partnership. Her work is currently on display at the Hawai‘i State Capitol, and she serves as the Executive Director of the Honolulu Printmakers.
