Rumriver Art Center Presents a New Art Exhibition Opening in the 21 Step Gallery.Anoka, MN - The 21 Step Gallery of Rumriver Art Center is excited to announce the opening of a new art exhibition; Butterflies & Moths of the Taiga: A Snapshot, by artist Steph Kunze. The opening reception for Kunze’s show is on Saturday, June 6th from 2 pm - 4 pm in the 21 Step Gallery.
Steph Kunze is a visual artist born and based in the Twin Cities. Her work is rooted in a lifelong love of drawing. She attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, earning a BFA in illustration. After graduating in 2012, she returned to Minnesota, where she has since exhibited and sold work through local galleries and fairs.
In Butterflies & Moths of the Taiga: A Snapshot, Kunze brings attention to the taiga’s often overlooked Lepidoptera, representing select species from as far north as the taiga-tundra ecotone to as far south as the deciduous-coniferous mixed forests. Working in traditional mixed media, she hand-draws each species onto fabric. Surrounding the species, she incorporates additional hand-drawn and fiber collage elements that complement the species’ distinct physical traits or habitat. As a whole, the series acts as a quilt of varying textures, colors, shapes, and patterns, inviting viewers to slow down and take notice of these enchanting creatures.
Folks are invited to meet the artist on Thursday, June 25th between 5:30 pm and 7 pm. Additionally, on Saturday, June 27th, from 11 am - 12 pm, Kunze will provide an artist talk in the 21 Step Gallery. All events are open to the public and free to attend.
The exhibition will open June 6th and run until July 11th, 2026.
