About this Event
Art Bot Engineering Lab
Ages 6–12

In Art Bot Engineering Lab, students become inventors, artists, and engineers as they build their own motorized drawing robots called ScribbleBots. Using simple materials such as cups, markers, batteries, motors, and specially fabricated parts, participants will explore how engineering, electricity, robotics, and creativity can work together to create moving works of art.

Students will learn how to build a basic electrical circuit, connect a motor and battery, and discover how vibration and motion can be used to create unique drawings and patterns. Along the way, they will design, decorate, test, and improve their Art Bots while learning the engineering design process through hands-on experimentation and problem-solving.

A special feature of this workshop is the use of custom laser-cut components, introducing students to modern fabrication technologies and showing how engineers and makers create custom parts for inventions, robots, and products.

What Students Will Learn
  • Basic engineering and robotics concepts
  • Electricity, motors, and simple circuits
  • How motion creates art and patterns
  • Engineering design and problem-solving
  • Testing, troubleshooting, and improving designs
  • Creative design and artistic expression
  • Introduction to laser cutting and custom fabrication
  • Teamwork, communication, and presentation skills

Final Project

Students will build, decorate, and present a working ScribbleBot that creates its own drawings while demonstrating engineering, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
