ARC Laureate Launch: Reforming Australia's Work Disability Benefit Systems
About this Event
The event will launch the ARC Laureate Fellowship research program of Prof Alex Collie. The laureate was awarded in 2025 and formally began in April 2026.
Professor Collie aims to modernise Australia’s work disability support systems by developing new evidence-based tools and policy models.
This project will integrate multidisciplinary approaches to assess system effectiveness, understand long-term work absences, and reflect community preferences. The outcomes will support more sustainable and participant-centred systems, reduce work disability and improve productivity. The research will be translated through a national community of practice and a training program involving people with lived experience. “
One of the goals of the Laureate program is to have deep and ongoing engagement with industry, government and community in order to support translation of research findings into policy and practice. This event is an important first step in that direction.
The event will include an international keynote speaker from the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, presentations from Prof Collie and the post-doctoral researchers who have been appointed to work on the program, and an industry/community panel discussion. We will also be unveiling the program branding including our name for the program, and launching the Community of Practice.
