April STEM on Tap: Drinking Water Sources, Treatment + Conservation

Grab a drink, pull up a chair and connect with other STEM teachers at STEM on Tap! This workshop series connects STEM teachers with practitioners, resources, and each other. Each workshop will take place at a brewery around the southwest metro and feature a different STEM practitioner and topic.*

You will receive a certificate for 2.0 hours of continuing education credit at the conclusion of the workshop.

Not all drinking water sources are equal, and neither are treatment systems. Some are very simple and basic, while others are extraordinarily complex. Eden Prairie’s enhanced coagulation lime softening water treatment plant has been the nexus of clean, safe drinking water and public environmental education since 1998. We’ll have an opportunity to tour the plant and observe the robust treatment process as we learn how Eden Prairie protects the quantity and quality of its deep well drinking water supply in the face of community and regional growth. We’ll also tour the co-located Environmental Learning Center and learn how water treatment plant tours can help bring home Minnesota Science Standards in a memorable and directly relatable manner–and introduce possible careers for students.

*Since this month’s event will take place at a working, industrial facility, the “Tap” in “STEM on Tap” this month is the drinking water tap! No alcohol is allowed. Dinner and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided for participants.
