About this Event
Join us at the historic Milford House for an aperitivo italiano featuring red wines from Sicily and Piedmont, two of the fastest growing and most popular wine regions of the new millenium. As we wander from Sicily's volcanic craters to the lush, rolling hills of Piedmont, we'll find common ground between these vastly different regions. To accompany us on our journey are Mirafiore, one of the most historic wineries of the Langhe, and Terrazze dell'Etna, a young cantina situated on the slopes of the volcano. Ferdinando Favara of Ethica Wines will guide us through the tasting, which, as always, will be accompanied by Italian-style light bites.
When: Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Italian Cultural & Community Center, 1101 Milford Street, Houston, TX 77006
Tickets: $30 ICCC Members | $35 General Admission
About the presenter
Ferdinando is an enthusiastic professional with a deep passion for the wine and spirits world, born and raised in Marsala, a historic city of wine. He enjoys collaborating with others and considers himself a strong team player. He chose to interrupt his studies in Economics in search of more practical challenges. This decision led him to gain hands-on experience in various facets of the wine industry.
Ferdinando’s journey in the wine sector began in 2015, when he first worked as a cellar assistant during the summer months in Sicily. He gained experience in the vineyard, learning about all stages of the production cycle, from pruning to harvesting. In the cellar, he became familiar with the different steps of the vinification and aging processes of sparkling, white, red, and sweet wines.
After these experiences, he decided to challenge himself on how to promote and sell Italian fine wines, so he started working as an export consultant for a company that owned a portfolio of more than a thousand items, gaining a broad view of Italy’s wine heritage.
Currently, after pursuing an MBA to refine his strategic approach to business practices, Ferdinando remains dedicated to growing in the wine industry. Joining Ethica Wines with a positive attitude, Ferdinando aims to contribute to elevating Italian wine to new heights.
What does aperitivo italiano really mean?
An aperitivo (or apéritif) is often described as being similar to the American happy hour, but in reality, it’s so much more than that. An aperitivo is a ritual, joyous and mood-lifting. It relaxes you after a day of work and prepares you for the night to come. The aperitivo has long been a staple in Italy, and in recent years, has been gaining more appreciation around the world.
