About this Event

Have you ever felt unheard, dismissed, or misunderstood in healthcare?

Healthcare experiences shape whether we seek care in the future. For many Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) youth, experiences of racism, discrimination, and culturally unsafe care can influence trust in healthcare providers and healthcare systems.

Coastal Research, Education, and Advocacy Network (CREAN Society) is inviting community to our Annual General Meeting and Community Forum. This community conversation is part of the BRIDGE Project (Barriers, Racism, and Inequities in Digital & healthcare access: Generating youth-informed Equity solutions), a community-based research initiative exploring how racism, discrimination, and cultural safety impact healthcare experiences for BIPOC youth in British Columbia.

About the Project:

The BRIDGE Project aims to better understand:

  • How racism, discrimination, and cultural safety are experienced in healthcare settings
  • How these experiences influence trust in healthcare systems and future healthcare-seeking behaviours
  • Barriers BIPOC youth face when accessing healthcare services
  • How youth navigate health questions and support through healthcare providers, social media, online communities, and AI tools
  • What changes could make healthcare more welcoming, equitable, and culturally safe

What to expect:

From 2:30 - 3:00 PM, CREAN will share our organizational impact and AGM objectives. Following from 3:00 - 4:00 PM participants will be invited to share experiences, perspectives, and recommendations related to healthcare access. Your voice will help inform recommendations and resources aimed at improving healthcare experiences for BIPOC youth across British Columbia.
