“Sensory Performance” Workshop with Katie Lohner (Naarm)
Come delight the senses, finesse your performance skills, learn to embody your words & share in the magic of ekphrastic poetry with the curious creator that is Katie Lohner, visiting from Naarm.
When: Sunday 13th September from 2pm-3:30pm (90min)

Meeting in the early afternoon on Sunday the 13th of September, you are invited to join us on a deliciously sensory journey through two different performance characters crafted by the magnificent Katie Lohner. Light catering included.
The echo&bounce cafe will be open during the day, so you are welcome to come along early to get your coffee and creative juices flowing. We will be beginning at 2pm sharp, with a 90 minute workshop that wraps at 3:30pm. The venue remains open during that time, and light catering will be provided as part of the workshop experience, but we encourage you to snag your beverages & any cafe meals in advance of the 2pm start time.

The Itinerary :
Feature Set - 20 minutes
A playful and sensory poetry performance featuring two sides of Katie Lohner's creative practice: The Hungry Poet, a cabaret-inspired poetry character exploring food, desire and longing ; and Cupcake Katie, a whimsical children’s poetry character bringing play, imagination and silliness to the stage.
The set will also introduce themes and poetic material that participants can draw from during the workshop.
Workshop - 70 minutes
This practical session explores performance techniques for spoken word, including voice, physicality, character, gesture and sensory expression. Participants will also explore an ekphrastic writing response inspired by Katie’s poetic sensory themes and performance.
The Facilitator :
Bio - Katie Lohner is a spoken word and performance artist from Naarm (Melbourne). Her deep and ludicrous performance style has touched audiences including LaMama Cabaretica, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Surrealisms Festival, Mother Tongue Poetry and Melbourne Spoken Word Festival. Her poetry has been described as hardcore whimsy where self discovery meets high energy comedy.

Accessibility:
The Venue is multi-level & unfortunately challenging for accessibility.
Entry to the venue is at street level - Stanley St entry has a small rise, Jacob Lane entry has 4 - 6 stairs. Bathrooms are located down those small stairs. The Studio Space is 12 -platform - 16 stairs steep up to the Season Three Loft then down a hallway, or a 13 step staircase from the Toilets
