About this Event
This year marks the 55th anniversary of "Shadhinota Dibosh" (স্বাধীনতা দিবস) Bangladesh’s declaration of independence on 26 March 1971, when the people of Bangladesh courageously embarked on a Liberation War for freedom, dignity, and self-determination. The conflict that followed was marked by immense sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering determination — a legacy that continues to inspire generations across the globe.
Our 2026 celebration carries the theme “Asha" (আশা) – Hope, symbolising the triumph of spirit, the continuity of heritage, and a forward-looking vision for peace, unity, and opportunity. It is a moment to reflect on history while celebrating the contributions and aspirations of today’s Bangladeshi community in Bedford.
Bedford is a proudly multi-diverse town, enriched by a tapestry of cultures, faiths, and histories. The Bangladeshi community has contributed significantly to the social, cultural, and economic life of the town — through business, education, health services, and civic engagement — and this celebration showcases that enduring impact within a spirit of inclusion and mutual respect.
The event will take place from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Harpur Suite, 3 Harpur Street, Bedford MK40 1LE, featuring cultural performances, reflections on the historical significance of independence, and moments of remembrance alongside celebration.hah
Join us to enjoy cultural entertainment from unique artists, the flavours of traditional cuisine and crafts from artesans as well as immersing yourself in the stories and legacy of Bangladeshi Independence.
