Manx Traditional Patchwork: Hand Stitching with Sally LeonardDiscover the beauty of Manx Traditional Patchwork, a stunning form of hand-stitched patchwork and quilting from the Isle of Man.
In this friendly and inspiring class, Sally will guide you through a short history of this traditional craft before teaching you the key techniques needed to create your own hand-stitched patchwork block. No sewing machine is required, as all blocks are stitched by hand — although, if you wish, blocks can be sewn together at home using a sewing machine for speed and convenience - you will not need your sewing machine at the workshop.
You’ll learn how to mix plain and patterned fabrics to suit your own style — whether you want to match your colour scheme at home or go mad and use up your fabric scraps for a wonderfully creative and unique finish.
Your finished block can be joined with others to make a small project, or if you’re feeling ambitious, why not go large and create a whole quilt of your own?
This class is suitable for beginners and more experienced stitchers alike. Come along to enjoy a relaxing, creative session and learn a beautiful traditional skill.
All welcome – just bring your enthusiasm and love of stitching!
Good to know:
The venue has parking. Upon arrival, park in the car park at the front of the shop. Unload your vehicle into your classroom. Staff will then advise you where to park your car for the day at the rear of the complex.
There is disabled parking and ramps allowing access to all areas. There is a disabled toilet.
Staff will help anyone in need of assistance. Shop on site selling an enormous range of goods relating to crafting: dressmaking, patchwork & quilting, knitting & crochet, sewing machines and furniture.
There is a coffee shop on site called O for Coffee. Attendees at our classes are visited by coffee shop staff regularly throughout the day to take any orders. Anything consumed during your day is sold at a 10% discount. As well as a large choice of hot and cold drinks, the menu comprises savoury choices including sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and soups. For those with a sweet tooth, there is a selection of cakes and scones made in-house with gluten-free and vegan options.
