Andersonville Walking Tour
About this Event
REGISTRATION AVAILABLE BEGINNING JULY 25TH
Chicago for Chicagoans is excited to bring back our Andersonville neighborhood, led by local resident Leyla Royale! As an experienced tour guide and descendent of Swedish (and Polish and German) immigrants, Leyla brings her expertise of local history to the tour, plus the knowledge you can only get from living in the community for close to a decade.
Beginning at the western entrance of St. Bontiface Cemetery (approx 4813 N Clark St), we'll discover the history, landmarks, and famous water tower of a neighborhood that's well-known for its Swedish roots. Learn about generations of small businesses, iconic traditions, lovely historic mansions, and the community's long-standing reputation as a haven for LGBTQ+ Chicagoans. Afterwards, join your fellow tour-takers for a slice of pie at First Slice, grab a tasty drink at Eli Tea Bar, or snag a hand pie for lunch at Middle Eastern Bakery.

Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too! We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans.
