An Evening with Wen-hao Tien
About this Event
Born and raised in Taiwan and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Tien is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose practice grew out of her early training in Chinese calligraphy and multimedia painting. In recent years, her work has turned toward foraging materials and stories from community streets, most notably Boston's Chinatown, where she has traced a cultural landscape in flux since the 1990s. Across mediums, her art asks viewers to notice the unnoticed — finding pattern, language, and metaphor in the overlooked textures of daily life.
In this talk, Tien will discuss how her attentiveness to found materials and community narrative connects to the scholars' rock tradition's core practice: slowing down to find meaning, form, and even language in the natural and the everyday. She'll also speak to her broader body of work, including her recent residency at Boston's Pao Arts Center and her membership at Boston Sculptors Gallery.
