Oil Painting for All Levels (Sep 30-Nov 4)
About this Event
Meeting each week for a 6-week session, this class meets students where they are, allowing each to paint freely at their own skill level—choosing from landscape, still life, portrait, abstract, or interior subjects, worked from life or photograph. Beginners, intermediates, and advanced painters learn side by side, with instruction tailored to each person's goals.
New painters are invited to speak with the instructor before their first class to discuss what they hope to accomplish. Sessions cover oil painting fundamentals, color theory and mixing, composition, and critique, with individual demonstrations suited to each student's developing style. An optional assignment or challenge is offered each week for those wanting extra direction or a new technique to explore. The atmosphere is relaxed and encouraging, and students can also pick up tips for promoting their art professionally.
Those with no painting background are encouraged to book one or two private lessons before joining a six-week session; for the September session, private lessons must be scheduled by August 19, as the instructor will be teaching a workshop in Provence that month. Students should share their email and phone number ahead of time so the instructor can connect with them at least a week before class begins.
All supplies are provided for a fee of $30 paid directly to the instructor, or students may bring their own. Class size is limited to 12.
One make-up class per session may be taken at Hope Floats in Kingston (Tuesdays, 9:00–12:00), with 24 hours' notice required; make-up classes are not available on the first day of a new session. In case of inclement weather or instructor cancellation, a make-up class will be held after the session's final class at the same time and location. Make-up classes are scheduled only for weather or instructor cancellations. No refunds, credits, or pro-rates.
