Amulets and Adornments – Metalwork and Jewellery Workshop
About this Event
Thursday July 9th
10am – 4pm
Ages 12 – 16 years
Inspired by the extraordinary objects of the Galloway Hoard, young makers aged 12 - 16 will explore how jewellery and adornment have historically acted as symbols of protection, identity, storytelling, and personal meaning.
Beginning with a guided tour of our newest exhibition Treasure of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard, students will gather inspiration from the forms, textures, patterns, and symbolism found within the hoard. They will then develop their own wearable contemporary object under the guidance of experienced facilitators from metalwork and jewellery studio SquarePeg.
Participants will learn jewellery-making techniques including:
● metal stamping
● roller printing
● texture making
● light forming
● finishing techniques
Students may create and take home:
● pendant
● cuff
● open band ring
using copper, brass, or aluminium.
No previous experience is required.
This workshop is facilitated by SquarePeg Studios in collaboration with the Australian National Maritime Museum.
