About this Event
Hebaska is both the Cornish word for calm and new work that will transform the Fly Loft, a cavernous space previously used for storing pilchards, above Newquay Harbour. The installation is a re-working of the organza originally exhibited in a collaborative installation Sound Solid Liquid Light, shown at Two Queens, Leicester, earlier this year with artists SJ Blackmore, Naomi Frears and Alice Mahoney.
This installation will be accompanied by performance violinist Juliet Walshe on Saturday 30 November, 1pm – 3pm.
The mass of material together with the sound of the violin will act, both as a a porous veil to the sea and an enclosure within the space, creating an enveloping symbiotic relationship, offering an immersive experience with the audience.
Leila Galloway is an artist based in Penryn, Cornwall. She describes herself as a maker of things, utilizing sculpture within the bounds of installation. Her practice is concerned with different conditions of flux -translations of various physical states and the way things appear to flow in an unending series of fleeting moments in suspension.
She studied sculpture at both Manchester Metropolitan University and the Slade School of Art. Later continuing on to study Aesthetics and Art Theory at The Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy, Kingston University. She has taught at various Higher Education institutions in the UK, exhibiting at numerous independent spaces and museums both nationally and internationally. Leila Galloway artist
