Maria Young was captivated when first introduced to West African dance nearly 30 years ago. She instantly knew she would dedicate her life to the study and eventually the teaching of this rich culture. This includes the traditional drum rhythms that accompany the dance. Some of the benefits of dance include it being a great workout, very healing and good for the mind and soul. It is both a new, fun and joyous experience.
Maria's class focuses on technique and is beginner friendly. This one hour class consists of an inspirational and meditative warm up done to beautiful African music. Following, is a traditional dance accompanied by drum rhythms created by the Dunun and djembe drums. Participating is a truly enriching experience!
