About this Event

AIA CEU Course | Wine Storage 101 + Wine Tasting Experience!

About the course

How do you translate a custom residential client's passion for wine into a beautifully integrated, functionally sound architectural showcase? While only 5% to 10% of globally produced wine is built to age, luxury clients routinely demand premium preservation spaces to protect their investments and express their lifestyle.

Join Wine Enthusiast for an exclusive in-person evening designed for architects, interior designers, and custom design professionals. This session pairs technical, accredited design education with an interactive, sensory wine tasting.

Part 1: AIA Continuing Education Course (1 Hour)
Course: Storage 101: The 5 Enemies of Wine & Architectural Cellar Storage Design (WINE101-LU)

Credit: 1.0 LU | Elective (Course No. WINE101-LU)

Master the foundational principles of high-end wine storage programming, collector psychology, and architectural space planning.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the functional and structural differences between immediate-consumption inventory and long-term aging collections to accurately program residential storage square footage and shelf capacities
  2. Explain how the "5 Enemies of Wine" (temperature, humidity, light, vibration, and odor) dictate appropriate spatial placement, interior finish selection, and proximity rules within a multi-zone residential layout.
  3. Differentiate between the spatial footprints, front- vs. rear-venting clearance criteria, and display capacities of built-in under-counter cabinetry integrations, standalone preservation units, and custom walk-in cellars.
  4. Evaluate client expectations using the "5 Ps of Wine Cellaring" to guide design decisions regarding bottle stacking density, high-impact visibility, and aesthetic material selection.
