AI Roundtable 2026: Governance, Safety & Innovation

In mid-2026, every senior leader in Western Australia is being asked the same question: what does responsible artificial intelligence actually mean for my organisation, my community, and my obligations as a citizen?

AI Roundtable 2026 is the WA AI Hub's flagship public conversation on the rules, risks and real value of artificial intelligence in Western Australia. For one afternoon, five voices sit around one table for a moderated discussion followed by a practical workshop. No vendor pitch. No futurism. A working roundtable on what to do next.

Australia has a Commonwealth Chief AI Officer mandate in force, a Voluntary AI Safety Standard, and a State AI Policy and Assurance Framework in Western Australia. Boards, executives and senior public servants are all being asked to act, often with limited internal capability and no precedent. This event puts the people setting the rules in the same room as the people working under them and the public who lives with the consequences.

1. , Independent Federal Member for Curtin. Among Australia's most active parliamentary voices on AI and leading work on deepfakes in elections, on automated decision-making safeguards in government, and on AI-generated child sexual abuse material.
2. , Chief Scientist Western Australia. WA's fourth and most senior independent science advisor, appointed in June 2025. Nanoelectronics researcher and Fellow of Engineers Australia, with two decades of work translating research into industry.
3. , Chief Scientist of the UNSW AI Institute. ARC Laureate Fellow, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and one of the world's most cited AI researchers. Author of five books on AI for the general public, most recently The Shortest History of AI (2025).
4. , Founder & Chair, WA AI Hub. Designer of the Responsible AI Governance Sprint and publisher of the Australia AI Business Index 2026. Adjunct at UNSW teaching Responsible AI and Human-Computer Interaction.
5. Facilitated by , Director of CX Insight and Adjunct Associate Professor at UNSW. First Asian female Google Developer Expert in Product Design and Strategy. Three decades of human-computer interaction practice across academia and industry.

Senior executives, board directors, public servants, academics, AI practitioners, and any Western Australian who takes the future of AI in this State seriously enough to spend two hours thinking it through with others.

The Western Australian AI Hub is the State's community-led accelerator for sovereign and responsible AI capability. It evolved from the Perth AI Innovators Meetup community founded by Josh Tedjasaputra and Dr Eunice Sari in 2024. WA AI Hub connects industry, government, academia and the startup community to accelerate the adoption of safe, ethical and inclusive AI in Western Australia.
