About this Event
As electronic health records are gathered in increasing volumes, it’s time to discuss what gaps still remain between the important questions to ask, and what the data at hand can say about those questions. The Jean Golding Institute would like to bring together researchers in AI and machine learning together with experts in health data science to discuss the barriers to advanced methods being developed and deployed to get the most out of health data, and potential solutions.
Practitioners concerns include:
- Compute: What is the current state and future of computing resources for AI in SDEs?
- Privacy: What limitations for analysis and result extractions are on SDEs and how does this affect AI?
Methodologists' concerns include:
- How does the barrier of an SDE to "non-professional" AI and methods developers impact their choice of working on these problems?
- Are there methods that might solve problems, e.g. surrogate datasets, synthetic data, and trustable AI?
Shared concerns include:
- The skills gap: How can AI/ML researchers work with practitioners to add value to health data research using SDEs?
- The disciplinary gap: How can we improve the communication between academics and clinicians through a shared understanding and vocabulary
Solutions we will discuss include regulations to ensure that the right people can access the right data, technical solutions such as trusted research environments, the training needs of both academic researchers and clinicians who are engaging with this space, and the benefits of shareable data sources such as standard public databases and synthetic data.
We are currently looking for speakers who would be interested in delivering a lightning talk for the event. This would consist of presenting 1 slide for 3 minutes. We are looking for talks that offer a perspective on the issues and solutions related to the topics discussed in this workshop.
