AFFIRM LGBTQ+ Youth (14-17) Support Group Therapy

Join us for AFFIRM, an 8-week program dedicated to providing group therapy to local LGBTQ+ community members with various coping skills through CBT therapy with our Program Clinician. AFFIRM strives to reduce depression and improve coping and self-efficacy for LGBTQ+ youth (14-17), focusing on identity cognition, mood, and behavior. Attendance to all sessions is strongly encouraged to build rapport with the group and follow the lesson plan, but late joiners are welcome as well. Participants who complete the program will be given a certificate of completion and a graduation ceremony! Light refreshments will be served.

Group details:

• When: Wednesdays (2:30pm-4:30pm)

• Where: Conference Room @ 1500 N Waterman Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92404

• Who: LGBTQ+ Youth (14-17)

• Cost: AFFIRM is completely FREE to join for eligible participants!

• Capacity: around 6-10 people per group

What to expect each week:

• Check-in: Introductions + Ice breakers

• Discussion on weekly lesson (open conversation format) + Activity

• Check-out + Positive affirmations

• 9/3: Informational Session + Session 1 – Intro to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

• 9/10: Session 2 – Understanding the Impact of Anti-LGBTQ+ Attitudes & Behaviors on Stress

• 9/17: Session 3 – Exploring How Thoughts Impact Feelings

• 9/24: Session 4 – Using Thoughts to Change Feelings

• 10/1: Session 5 – Linking Feelings & Activities

• 10/8: Session 6 – Overcoming Counterproductive Thoughts & Negative Feelings by Setting Goals

• 10/15: Session 7 – Developing Safe, Supportive & Identity-Affirming Social Networks

• 10/22: Session 8 – Putting It All Together!

• 10/29: Halloween Graduation + Informational Session
