About this Event
Summoning the Black Spirits of Reparatory Justice: ADEJA at the African and Caribbean War Memorial
In the heart of Brixton, London, stands the African and Caribbean War Memorial, a poignant reminder of the contributions made by African and Caribbean service personnel in the First and Second World Wars. This sacred ground, Windrush Square, serves as a witness to history, echoing the sacrifices and valor of those who fought alongside British and Commonwealth Forces. Now, a new initiative named the African Diaspora Equity and Justice Alliance (ADEJA) seeks to evoke the "Black Spirits of Reparatory Justice" at this hallowed site.
ADEJA, conceived and established by Reparation Nation Limited, holds a distinctive vision of creating a Black African Autonomous Entity for Empowerment and Reparatory Justice. Unlike traditional movements seeking funding or financial investments, ADEJA's focus lies in garnering endorsement for its vision, particularly from the IC3 Black community classified under the UK Government's race and ethnicity standards.
The choice of Windrush Square as the stage for ADEJA's summoning of the "Black Spirits of Reparatory Justice" is deeply symbolic. This location, hosting the African and Caribbean War Memorial, pays tribute to the often overlooked contributions of over two million African and Caribbean military servicemen and servicewomen in the two world wars. The memorial, unveiled on 22 June 2017, stands as a testament to the resilience and bravery of those who served, a history that ADEJA seeks to honor and address.
The ADEJA reparations movement aligns itself with the UK government, recognizing the value of race and ethnicity codes for good governance. The movement acknowledges the importance of preserving Protected Characteristics, including race and ethnicity codes, as a matter of national security. ADEJA aims to provide clarity regarding its objectives, especially concerning race and ethnicity codes, fostering a transparent alliance with the government.
ADEJA categorizes reparations into tradeable and non-tradeable assets, emphasizing both financial resources and cultural significance. By serving as a clearinghouse for IC3 Black entities, ADEJA encourages contributions to its mission through evidence-based claims and support for the restoration of cultural identity. The movement, in collaboration with the White People Protection League (WPPL), incentivizes whistleblowers to provide evidence for reparatory justice, further underlining its commitment to a claim-by-claim basis.
One of ADEJA's innovative approaches is the introduction of reparations shares, turning Blackness into an asset class. The distribution of shares based on the percentage of Black heritage reflects a nuanced recognition of diverse Black identities. This inclusive framework seeks to empower individuals based on the depth of their connection to their Black heritage.
The core identity recognition principles of ADEJA encompass place of birth, lineage, appearance (visual ethnicity), state of mind/habits, and DNA. By acknowledging these aspects, ADEJA aims to create a transformative platform addressing historical inequities, fostering international collaboration, and paving the way for shared prosperity.
As the ADEJA reparations movement unfolds at Windrush Square, it resonates with the spirits of the past, summoning the "Black Spirits of Reparatory Justice." The initiative strives to correct historical omissions, ensuring that the sacrifices and contributions of the African and Caribbean communities are recognized and celebrated. ADEJA's mission, with its ambitious timeline for reparatory justice by 9 November 2025, seeks to establish a platform that transcends borders, empowering Black Africans, the Black African diaspora, and the Mixed-Black diaspora. In doing so, ADEJA endeavors to create a legacy of justice, equity, and unity for generations to come.
