About this Event
The Stage Door pub is ready to shake off the last of winter with an acoustic evening that spans decades, genres, and storytelling styles. On Thursday, March 5, join us for a night where South London folk-rock imagination meets Gravesend grit, seasoned covers artistry collides with raw spoken truth, and Kent's creative heartbeat pulses strong once again.
Headlining the night is Mötherwitz, the South London troubadour whose been turning heads and converting audiences across the capital. Rooted in contemporary folk and progressive rock, Mötherwitz weaves sophisticated earthy harmonies with theatrical vocals, creating a folktale atmospheres around factual events—think The Kinks meeting Crosby, Stills & Nash with a dash of Love and The Stranglers. Championed by Mickey Bradley of The Undertones on BBC Ulster and John Kennedy on Radio X, Mötherwitz bring their unique brand of sonic storytelling to The Stage Door stage.
Next up, Phillip Watson returns to Stage Door. This Gravesend singer-guitarist channels the fire of The Jam and The Clash, the swagger of Oasis, and the poetry of The Smiths. Expect music with attitude—rebellious, powerful, and uncompromising. Phillip's passion for songs that transcend into a way of life promises to deliver raw energy and sharp-edged melody.
Toby Wooloughan follows with his versatile covers set. A Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) graduate with three years of professional performance under his belt, Toby takes you on a journey through pop classics spanning multiple decades. From timeless favourites to present-day anthems, his polished delivery and broad repertoire make for the perfect mid-evening moment.
Rounding out the night, Chris Porcas brings his distinctive voice to the stage. This north Kent poet—timber merchant by day, wordsmith by night—only started writing in October 2023 but has since taken the scene by storm. From The Royal Horseguards Hotel in London to The Space in Margate, Chris delivers biographical, observational, humorous, and spiritual verse designed to entertain, heal, and inspire. With his debut book The Road To Poetry now available, and regular appearances across Kent's spoken word circuit, Chris brings wisdom and authenticity in equal measure.
As always, doors open at 7:30pm, admission is free, and all you need to bring is yourself. Grab a pint, settle in, and get ready for a Thursday evening that blends folk imagination, rock rebellion, pop nostalgia, and poetic truth in true Stage Door style.
See you on the 5th.
