International workshop focusing on the temporal and existential aspects of environmental aesthetic experience.
On 16-17 May, the International Workshop "Abyss of Time: Temporality and Existence in Environmental Aesthetic Experience" will take place at Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary), as part of the “Perspectives in Environmental Aesthetics” research project of the Research Centre for Aesthetics, Nature and Environment (RCANE). All scholars, young researchers, students and professionals interested in the topic are welcome. The most convenient way to join is to follow the event online and participate interactively in the discussions.
The focus of the workshop:
With eight invited international participants and researchers of our project, we will discuss the aesthetic aspects of concepts of temporality, duration and rhythm which have functioned variously in different historical periods. Time can be perceived as moving forward, backwards and sideways; it is often perceived as chronological and cosmic, geological and deep, local and global, evolutionary and discontinuous. The perception of time depends on our relationship to space, but also to the objects in space, i.e. to the environment and its atmosphere. Many issues in environmentalism concern time, among others preservation, restoration, conservation, Anthropocene, and climate change; their aesthetic aspects always reflect the experience of time. The presentations investigate these topics, along three major axes, focusing on different forms of temporalities, their perception, as well as their aesthetic implications.
