About this Event
Just North of the River Dee and facing Duthie Park, Allanvale is a classic Victorian cemetery - beautiful, very practical, and of course a sad place if your loved ones were interred there. But like many old cemeteries it can also tell the story of the place and area it served. Why is it where it is and who developed it? What does it tell us about the work Victorians did and the many places they travelled to throughout the world? Who was the 'City Hatter'? Why was an Indian soldier buried here? Who was 'Poor Kate'? Many fascinating, often tragic, sometimes inspiring, and sometimes mysterious stories lurk within the often elaborate monuments that commemorate the people who rest here. Learn about their stories and much more. And what future does an atmospheric place like Allanvale have?
Roger White was both a town planner and local government manager for many years. In retirement he's become a 'bitsa' person, doing bitsa this and bitsa that. He has always been fascinated by old cemeteries and what they can tell us about our history and people in the past.
This is a FREE event but booking is essential, either in-person at the gift shop counter, by tel. 01224 585312 or via Eventbrite. The cafe will be open in advance, so why not also grab lunch, tea/coffee or one of our amazing homemade tray bakes or cakes!
