Join us for a special evening with Dr Richard Jakob-Hoff, Veterinarian and Conservation Scientist, as he shares from his recently completed memoir, some of his life story through connections with eight animals that profoundly influenced and shaped his career in wildlife conservation around the world.
Beginning as a 16-year-old trainee keeper in 1960's UK, Richard was inspired to save species from extinction while working for pioneering conservationist and author Gerald Durrell.
This quest led him to migrate to Australia where, frustrated by his limited education, he returned to school and ultimately studied veterinary science. After some years in domestic animal practice, he was employed as Curator/Veterinarian at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, NSW before migrating to Aotearoa in 1989.
During his 30 years at Auckland Zoo his roles included Senior Curator, Acting Director, Senior Veterinarian and Manager of Conservation Science and Research. A keen collaborator, his most satisfying experiences have been working in teams across the Zoo, DOC and tertiary institutions including Unitec.
After Richard's presentation we invite you to connect and network with fellow attendees over tea/coffee.
