A Tree That Raised You
About this Event
As the olive harvest season unfolds in Palestine, we’ll gather to watch Where the Wind Blows, a short documentary by Hana Elias following her family’s first olive harvest together as they reconnect with an ancestral tree and the stories that emerge from it.
The film weaves together relationships to the natural world and archival storytelling, and is a point of departure for Hana’s next work in progress, that led her to new unexpected archives. Extending the viewing experience beyond the screen, the film invites us to revisit our own archives through a guided writing workshop.
Participants are invited to bring an object from their own archive as a starting point for reflection. Through a guided writing workshop, we’ll engage with these objects and the memories they hold, writing on seed paper before planting our messages to take root in new ways.
Through sharing her filmmaking and archival process, Hana will create a collective space to activate the archive in everyday life, recognizing that stories are not simply remnants of the past, but living histories that continue through our acts of retelling and reimagining.
